Summer meadows
These wild flower meadows are over my back garden wall. We are surrounded by them.
This particular year the buttercups were very abundant and prevalent – intense yellows…
It was a remarkable sight – never really been repeated.
On seeing these images a friend commented – “I didn’t think you grew oil seed rape up here…”
The Yorkshire Dales contain about a sixth of the UK’s remaining upland hay meadows. These complex habitats are teeming with up to 120 species of wildflowers and grasses per field. They are home to many rare species of wildlife, plants like the Globeflower, endangered animals like the Brown Hare, and provide a vital habitat for bumblebees and other pollinators.
